Week Number 6 & Date: 16/03/20
List of Tasks planned for this week:
This week I will begin by going back over my work before the interim to ensure that my ideas generation has been complete hitting the requirements to reach a grade of merit/distinction.
After I’ve finished looking over my work I will continue to block out more components for my vehicles, environment layout then hopefully move onto creating further detailed versions of
my ideas. Due to being ahead of my schedule I have decided to push forwards into my own plan and begin the development of my assets by testing further ideas.
tyre-alloy
Due to already producing the majority of my vehicles base shape and even the front bumper of my vehicle, I decided to focus more on the wheels of my vehicle. So I’ve adapted further on one of my blockouts to create a higher poly realistic style of rim to suit my car. Below you can see a series of images with slight alterations which I screenshot for advice as I progressed through the production of this component. It’s not entirely finished yet however is currently going extremely well in my opinion, There is however some geometry which definitely needs fixing which I forgot about while modelling, although this is only minor issues such as a few n-gons here and there.
I decided that I needed to focus a little more on the texturing side of things as I seem to be lacking content in that area, so I figured as I was working on the wheels of my vehicle, I may as well attempt to produce some materials I could use for my final piece. I’m doing this now as I completely forgot to do this during the testing stage of production however has not set me back due to being ahead in terms of modelling my scene and the majority of my focal asset. The final image displayed below in my opinion is my favourite as it’s rather simplistic however I will be adding further details using photoshop/normals so that the sidewall of the tyres do not appear to be completely smooth which will be interesting to do. The tread of the tyre was made using photoshop, a very simple design which in my opinion is rather effective for what I was aiming to create. However there are definitely some issues with this that I will be altering as I progress.
After further exploration with the texture for this particular component, I realised the main issue with the final piece above was that the roughness was far too low on the sidewall of the tyre itself which made the texture overall look extremely strange. I fixed this by simply reducing the roughness on the base layer, I also added further detail to the sidewall as I thought it looked way too clean to be a tyre. Although I do like the material created, I think that the text on the sidewall of the tyre should be slightly smaller, especially the text displaying tyre size etc.
Guttering
After analysing the test piece of my garage, I decided that the model required further detail so I began modelling simple guttering to add more realism to the asset as on it’s own it is rather basic. Somehow this turned out rather well considering the lack of research due to an idea change halfway through the project.. I’m still not happy displaying my vehicle in a scene anymore as it’s distracting the modelling progress of the vehicle, however I’m still working on this nonetheless.
headlights
Despite the lack of motivation/effort put into my work this week, I’ve progressed a little further with my vehicle, below is a screenshot displaying the headlights created using my own vehicle as a main reference however I did take a different approach with the actual lights on the interior of the casing itself and used an image of modified headlights up close as I couldn’t really see much through the casing on my car. I think this may require some more detail however currently it is looking rather clean in my opinion.
concluding this week
Due to being isolated (Currently day 9 of isolation) from the Coronavirus as my mother is classified as a vulnerable person, I have been rather distracted from my work and have not produced much this week, however I think that I’m progressing rather well even though I’ve only done a rather small amount this week. The whole situation regarding the Coronavirus as seriously impacted my mental health causing extreme lack of motivation, which isn’t ideal as my mental health wasn’t the best to begin with.
Week Number 7 & Date: 23/03/20
List of Tasks planned for this week:
According to my plan I aimed to begin the production of my final assets using the ideas generation created in weeks 1 through 3, however I changed my idea quite a fair amount as I’ve progressed meaning I am slightly behind as I have to produce an entirely different environment to display my vehicle. Due to the Covid-19 virus absolutely shattering my mental health, I’m seriously beginning to doubt whether I will finish this project with my desired outcome. However I have already begun production as you can see in week 6, although it is only a small amount of work I am technically ahead of schedule.
garage door
In the images below you can see some testings for the garage door of this asset, after further research I’ve noticed that the garage doors are actually embedded into the wall itself unlike the second image displayed. The final image displays the beginning of the production of this particular component, I will further detail this using the style shown in the first image which was created by baking a high poly onto a plane to give an illusion of depth to the garage door.
Car progress
Below are two images displaying the windows added to the vehicle, although this may look extremely simple it was actually a really difficult task as I was having some major issues with duplicated vertexes as well as faces which made adding the extra details for smoothing extremely difficult. However I seem to have got the hang of adding the excess detail and is going rather well, other than some mild issues and struggles with certain extrusions and bevels.
