UCAS Application

Finance code

The information I’ve filled in on the screenshot below is to inform the universities I am applying for as to how I’m planning to pay for the course (Student finance)

Qualifications

The screenshot displayed below lists all of my qualifications in and outside of college, I currently have not achieved a high enough grade at the time I took my GCSE exams however I’m planning to just try with the grades hoping for the best and worst case scenario I will just take a year out to retake them.

University Choices

Below is a list of the Universities I’m applying for, I have only listed two as they best suit my profession which is 3D Modelling.

Personal Statement Planning

Below is my UCAS Personal Statement worksheet which I have filled in answering the questions provided.

Personal statement

Whilst writing my personal statement, I finished and had Rosie Jones look it over as she reviews many applications on a daily basis. And she said that it was fine and I did not need to make any alterations, hence why there is only one draft.

Final Draft

I’m applying for this course because I’m fascinated by the graphics which have advanced a great deal over the years ranging from 2D to 3D. The main reason this subject interests me is because it gives me a sense of achievement and enjoyment from producing certain pieces of work, in particular the creation of 3D assets such as props and some environmental studies. I have learnt a huge variety of skills relating to the subject for example, I have the ability to produce high and low poly models and I am able to bake a high poly mesh onto a low poly to give the illusion of a far more detailed asset, I am also able to produce both realistic and stylized materials through the use of Photoshop and Substance Painter. I have become extremely passionate about my work, making me incredibly efficient with hitting deadlines on time and I am also constantly aiming to achieve a higher quality of work as I progress. An example of this is one of my final projects, I finished my written work roughly 3-4 weeks before everyone else which gave me plenty of time to improve on my scene by adding much more detail.

Over the past 3 years I’ve developed a huge range of skills used within the gaming industry, I’ve become confident in multiple forms of art. I prefer working on 3D projects due to my gaming history being mainly 3D focused. The main gaming experience which impacted my career choice greatly was the Call of Duty franchise as the developmental process throughout the years has improved incredibly in terms of graphics. I frequently sketch various ideas before producing my work which has been extremely useful to further develop my ideas. I have also become extremely efficient within the software of each art pathway as well as games engines these include Photoshop, Maya, 3dsMax, Substance Painter and Unreal Engine. An example of this is one of my final major projects, I used Maya to model my assets, textured them in Substance Painter and then finally imported them into Unreal Engine where I used the various tools available to improve the graphical quality of my scene, making it appear far more realistic which I would not be able to achieve in the base renderer inside of Maya. I have also taken part in workshops surrounding 2D graphics which included digital sketching, producing assets using Illustrator, Photo Editing in photoshop and also painting stylized textures.

Throughout my life I have struggled with Anxiety, Depression and Agoraphobia and in my opinion, overall my greatest achievement is managing to overcome my fears and push myself back into education in a field I’m interested in. I’m still affected by these issues on a daily basis however they are improving every day. Due to these issues I couldn’t attend the trips available, I am planning to attend the next trip to Rezzed in my final year to show off my work and get advice on how to improve.
I’m currently a part time delivery driver for a local take away restaurant. In this role it is essential to be approachable and friendly, as well as have excellent communication skills. These will be fundamental when studying at university due to some projects requiring you to work as a team to produce group projects. I spend the majority of my spare time working on side projects related to 3D Modelling. For example, I am interested in Viking culture and decided to produce a monument which was an environmental piece to improve my skill-set within Unreal Engine such as Particle effects and terrain modelling.
After graduating I’d like to link with industry professionals to develop indie games, producing assets and building my portfolio further. My career goal is to work for AAA games as this is the highest stage you can reach within the industry of games development and I would love to see my work within games I regularly play.
