Interrogation Room (3d)
mindmap
To further develop on this idea I’ve created a very small mind map to display the possible assets I could include if I decided to produce this scene in particular. I’m not overly fond of this idea mainly due to the lack of assets that would actually fill the scene however I could make up for this by increasing the finer details of the assets in the scene to increase the quality as quality is far superior to quantity in my opinion.
Although the scene is rather simple, I would use the double sided mirror asset to display a reflection into another version of the scene which would be the chaotic side to the room which would include damaged versions of the assets listed below and possibly blood splatter around the room to display that someone has been injured. If I decided to produce this scene for my project I’d like the style to be horror based on one side of the mirror to further impact the viewer and hopefully create a better visual representation of the theme in my own unique way.
This scene would be a rather small 3D Diorama rendered within Unreal Engine to get the best visual outcome possible, I’ve produced various scenes using Unreal Engine and have become rather confident with the tools and settings required to create a realistic scene using various lighting and post processing.
Below is a rough sketch of the layout I could potentially have for this idea, if I chose to produce this idea I would definitely add further finer details to the walls and floor as the entirety of the scene is mainly focused around the table/chairs which I would like to be a rather high quality due to such a tiny scene, this would mean further experimentation in substance designer to allow higher quality textures. I really like this idea however I just personally think that the end result would look rather dull and empty compared to my previous final projects.

Interrogation Rooms
Below is a moodboard displaying various types of interrogation rooms which I could potentially use as a reference for if I decided to produce this particular type of scene/diorama however I am not particularly fond of this idea due to the majority of my projects revolving entirely around environmental/interior 3d modelling and would like to focus on other more complex props for games. However the images would be extremely useful as I can clearly see the items/objects which would be inside of this particular room and produce further research based around the particular assets I could include in my project.
Prison cell (3d)
mindmap
To further explore ideas for this idea in particular I created a mindmap to help me visualise the possible assets I could potentially model to add to the scene to display that it is in fact a prison cell which the viewer is looking at even down to the finer details such as basic essentials a toilet, bed, toothbrush etc. I also looked into some peoples experience in prison and they explained that their cells weren’t nearly as strict as I expected them to be, they had access to televisions, books/magazines and were allowed photographs and posters in their cells.

Below is a very rough top down layout sketch of the possible cell I could produce with all the assets included, I personally think now that I have actually visualised the scene properly that this could work rather well as I can create some relatively detailed assets and also include some exterior lighting which I have always wanted to experiment with. This could also be a potentially risky move because if I don’t manage to successfully detail my assets to a high standard then I won’t be able to achieve the grade needed to eventually get into University.
The colors I could use for this scene are rather limited as most prison cells are quite dull with plain color schematics however I’d go for a brick, grey/blue textured wall as to keep it a rather clean cell to maximize the state of ‘Order’ that has been set for the prisoner in question.

PRISON CELLS
The mood board below displays various images of prisons possibly from different locations across the globe, I could use this as reference to create my own style of prison cell however I’m not particularly sure whether this would be a suitable final product as it would be extremely basic due to prisoners lacking the luxuries of large amounts of possessions. I could however make up for the lack of assets by including extremely detailed high poly assets with high resolution textures. I like the images as the huge variety of different prisons worldwide would greatly impact my style of prison cell for if I decided to choose this for my project, from this I could further develop this research into the various items/objects which would be found inside of a prison cell such as toilets, beds, lighting and more.
Restoration – Vehicle diorama (3d)
Mind map
To further adapt on this idea I’ve created a mind map to visualize the amount of detail I could potentially include within the scene itself, I managed to think of various environments of which I could display the model of my vehicle in however I’m not entirely sure which would work best for the outcome I’m aiming for. I personally like the idea of displaying the vehicle in a showroom or on a long windy road with a bright/hilly realistic environment with maybe a lake where I could display the reflection better. If I decide to choose this idea I will produce further research on environments and produce various sketches to get a better idea of how the outcome would look. In the mind map you can see various assets I could possibly include depending on the type of environment I choose to produce, for example if I decided to model a petrol station I’d need to take into account for the building, the petrol pumps and other signs.
This idea could be produced in various ways, I have already thought of several ideas I could use to create some very unique scenes, both of which involve a reflection. My main idea for this is to 3d model a vehicle in pristine condition, texture it to a realistic quality, duplicate the model and break the vehicle in strategic areas to give off the affect that the vehicle has been left to rot and is extremely damaged, once finished with the damaged version I would then texture the vehicle to fit the style for this version. Textures for this would include rusted metals with the little to no paintwork to further stress the visual effect that the vehicle was once completely ruined beyond repair, further details could include cracks in windows, bodywork and dents. This damaged version would be displayed in the waters reflection instead of the pristine version to display the restoration of the vehicle to that of it’s original condition. I would like to display the pristine vehicle in a rather bright colour as to stand out most in the scene, I will do further research around popular colours with vehicles amongst various ages to see which would stand out the best.
For the environment to display the vehicle in I’d like to replicate something similar to the image displayed below which is almost an exact visualisation of what I would want the outcome to look like. I would begin by modelling one of the garages displayed below which could easily be split up into modular pieces/duplicated along an axis to save time when modelling, however instead of having the doors open I think I would leave them closed and try to have the reflection come from the lighting instead of the interior of the garages themselves.

Vehicles
Below is a moodboard displaying the possible vehicle types I could potentially explore to help influence the decision on the car I’ll end up producing, however I already have a vehicle in mind for production which is the MK4 VW Golf as this is my favourite vehicle and I would like to produce a rally style variant of this particular car. I like the images below due to the huge variety of shapes of vehicles and bodykits which I could potentially also use as reference to merge into my ideas generation to see whether it would suit the type of vehicle I aim to produce. If I decide to change the type of vehicle I will eventually produce, this moodboard will be useful as there is such a large variety of modified/standard vehicles I could alter in the ways described above.
Final Idea
I decided to ask the opinion of others to see which their favoured idea of the three above were, the results are pointing towards me producing the interrogation room idea however only 11 people voted so I personally think it’s a split decision for myself currently. In my opinion I think that the vehicle diorama would stand out the best as I think I have the ability to replicate a highly realistic 3D scene and having a singular focal point could be beneficial for impacting the viewer by detailing the singular asset to a high degree.

Vehicle Diorama – restoration (3d)
Despite the majority voting towards the interrogation room idea, I’ve finally decided on producing the vehicle diorama idea as I personally think that I could create a more visually appealing finally product as I have some experience with modelling vehicles which has made me aware of the mistakes made during the production of that particular model, the gif below displays an obvious mistake which I can easily rectify during this project however I didn’t manage to get round to fixing this one as I lost the file.

mind map
Now that I have finally decided on which idea to use for my final project, I had to expand a little further on my mind map to break down parts of the vehicle I could potentially change in order to make my own version of the vehicle I decide to produce without just copying a single vehicle itself. This can be made to be quite simple due to many cars being relatively similar as well as brands working in collaboration such as the peugeot 107, citroen c1 and the toyota aygo.
For my vehicle I have an idea of using two cars, the Audi A3 and a MK4 Volkswagen golf as they have a relatively similar body shape allowing me to switch up components such as front bumpers, rear bumpers purely to not make the vehicle look entirely terrible as the shapes will merge together quite smoothly I think. I will however be focusing mainly on creating my own version of the MK4 Golf as this has been my dream car since I was a child but will be taking aspects of other vehicles as inspiration for various rim styles, spoilers and other body components.
Body Kits
Below are a variety of cars displaying bodykits which I could potentially merge together to create my own version of the MK4 Golf in a relatively clean fashion, I can test whether this would look good by photobashing various parts of the body of different cars onto the Golf, based on these photobashes I will decide which components would look best for the vehicle. I will also produce some sketches of different body parts combining various front bumpers, rear bumpers and side skirts to see if I can create my own style of bodykit suitable for the vehicle.
I like the images below in particular as the cars chosen have a relatively similar shape to the vehicle I’m choosing to replicate which will hopefully allow for a smooth transition between the components with some alterations. I’m not 100% sure how well this will work however I do personally like the idea of creating my own type of bodykit which will require a lot of unique idea generation.
Vehicles audi a3/mk4 vw golf
The two vehicles displayed in the moodboard below show the main vehicle I will be basing my project on, these two vehicles have almost the exact same body and chassis as each other and the Audi A3 MK1 is also described as the ‘Sister’ by wikepedia. The importance of the body being similar is that I can essentially take parts of each car and create my own concept of vehicle based upon the two. In particular I really like the style of the Audi A3’s front bumper and the VW Golf’s R32 rear bumper so I could easily merge these onto the same vehicle making some slight alterations using Maya. I’ve chosen to use the MK4 Golf as my base vehicle as I’ve seen some really visually appealing versions of this vehicle which people have turned it into a tuned version or even a rally version of the car, I will further experiment with ideas during my developed research.
mk4 vw golf (Photos)
Below are photos of my car which I bought in September, this is the vehicle I’m basing my entire project around. I decided to take images as my car actually has some components of Volkswagen’s performance hatchback, the MK4 Golf R32. These include, front bumper, rear bumper and spoiler, I could use these images as reference for when it comes to producing the base model of the vehicle and the benefit of owning the car is allowing me to see in person, the finer details of the vehicle itself which will hopefully improve the final outcome. I also have a friend who owns the ‘Sister’ model (Audi A3) of this car which I might take some photos of as I’d like to combine various components of each car together and think this could be beneficial.
Environment
Below are various images of the environments for which I could potentially display my vehicles in, these include petrol stations, beaches and just plain sunny roads. In my opinion I think that a plain sunny road, although simple would stand out and look rather visually appealing in combination with the vehicles I’m modelling however could take focus away from my whole idea overall. This would require experimentation with various UE4 lighting tutorials and environmental sculpting.
japanese tuner cars (Magazine source)
To further increase the choices of vehicle for if i decided to go down the route of producing a vehicle, I decided to look through a Japanese tuner car magazine displaying some of the cleanest and most visually appealing vehicles created by japan. I personally really like their style of vehicle as they have a particularly nostalgic feel to them as when I was a child I was extremely interested in these types of cars, mainly due to racing games and movies based around vehicles. I like this particular moodboard as the Japanese style vehicle is widely popular within the car community due to their unique body shape and potential modifications added by owners which would be incredibly fun to produce and design my own components for one of these particular vehicles.
