General Cyberpunk Research

Definition

Merriam Webster has defined the term ‘Cyberpunk’ as science fiction based around futuristic urban societies ‘dominated by computer technology’

This in my opinion is a very broad definition not giving me a lot of room for ideas as i progress and will therefor find other links to the word.

After looking at various images based around the term, I have identified a common pattern to most of the images found. Most of them are all set in a very compact city with the architecture relatively similar to nowadays with a unique technological twist to almost every aspect of the design including a neon style colour schematic.

Mind Map

To further develop on the term to allow a larger range of ideas I’ve created a mindmap linking the term to various things I could potentially use for my project. Due to the theme not allowing me to link it to a huge amount of things I was only able to think of few ideas, however one of the main links from cyberpunk that I found was that most movies and games are set in a Dystopian futuristic setting which I will most likely be following for this project.

District 9 Weapons

At the start of this project I had already decided to produce a weapon as I find these particular assets the most interesting and enjoyable to model, I also find myself adding far more detail which could potentially leave me with a far superior final piece.

Street/Neon Lighting

Quite possibly the most generic idea when thinking of the term ‘Cyberpunk’ is neon lighting within a narrow alley/street so I have collected a variety of images displaying this particular idea which can be seen below.

Sci Fi/Futuristic Vehicles

Another idea which came to mind when creating my mind map was futuristic vehicles which I could easily link to the theme as the literal definition is ‘science fiction dealing with future urban societies dominated by computer technology’

Sci Fi Armour

This research displays various forms of science fiction armour which I thought would be quite an original idea, however I’m not quite sure how difficult this would be to create to a reasonable standard within the timeframe given.
